"They sent some historian": Rutte calls on Russia to start negotiations with Ukraine based on modern realities, not the 1700s
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte criticized the previous round of talks in Istanbul, where the Russian delegation was headed by Vladimir Medinsky, chairman of the Interdepartmental Commission for Historical Education of the Russian Federation.
"We have to make sure that Ukraine has what it needs and that Russia sits down at the negotiating table and has a meaningful dialogue with Ukraine, not by sending some historian to talk about what happened in the 1700s or something else, but by having meaningful conversations about contemporary realities," the NATO Secretary General emphasized.
He also noted the role of Trump. According to Rutte, he "broke the deadlock with Putin when he came to power." Trump was the only one who could do this, and eventually the conversation between Kyiv and Moscow began.
